I got lucky last week and the Pipe Gods smiled on me once again with this pipe. I snagged this Ashton "Old Church" Rhodesian in XX size and unsmoked. It is in mint (no handling dings, etc.). It was also drilled perfectly, which is not always a given with later Ashtons. Interestingly, I learned that the Old Church finish was not stained, only waxed. I love the warm honey color, it just glows.
I'm on a trip today which took me past Cigars International. I was able to enjoy the first smoke in their beautiful lounge, with some Imperial Dubec from the Annapolis Smoke Shop. I've never had a new Ashton before, so enjoying the first bowl in the oil-cured wood was a real treat. I suppose the 16 years that have elapsed since it was made has diminished the effects of the oil-curing but it sure was a great first smoke.
