Someone mentioned this somewhere, but sometimes aromatics ("aros") are just not burley (not Burley) enough.
I have a mixture of Dark Burley and White Burley that I introduce in a 60-40 mix with the aro. This seems to work very well, in that the flavorings stand out more rather than less!
In my view, we need a new category, like "homeopathic aromatics." In this one, people mix the aromatic in with some strong tobacco for us leaf addicts...

I started off by smoking aromatics but have since moved towards straight burley blends, as well as Virginia blends. I have mixed some of the aromatics I bought with some of my straight burley (some burley/virginia blends) blends and they do tend to work well.

I mixed about 25% Molto Dolce with 75% Warrior plug and that came out real tasty. Tamed some of the roughness of the plug but had the umph that the aro didn't have

I often mix rope tobaccos with a complementary aro tobacco to tame the nicotine a bit, but mostly to add a real tobacco taste to the aromatic.
This sounds like a really good idea, I may have to try this.

Thanks Orley!

Works great. I've mixed various fuller strength tobaccos in with milder blends, aromatic nor non, and it often gives an excellent smoke. Just don't go overboard with the full strength leaf or you're completely eclipse the mild and miss the interesting harmonizing between the two.

If I could, I would use Brown Twist Sliced for any mix needed. Note that mixed with a base of Dark Burley, a pinch of Perique or Dark Fired Kentucky Burley, this excellent tobacco becomes sublime. If you had 60% of a Brown Twist Sliced/Burley mix and 40% of your aromatic, the result would be quite amazing. At least, this is the case with the aromatics I have tried.

I struggle to smoke all but a handful of aromatics and fail miserably with Cavendish, it always tastes musty to me, like a hamper. Blending them into a hearty base that's 50% or more works for me and I get a hint of the aro peeking through.

C&D cube cut burley is what I've started using for aro's. I mix it in with Sutliff Mark Twain and Spiced Rum. Helps take care of a lot of the moisture also.

@theloniousmonkfish:
I have the same relationship to Cavendish. Straight up, it is sort of like smoking an old Mexican dessert. Mixed in with a solid Burley/Virginia mix and condimented with Perique, Dark Fired or Latakia, it can be delicious. In 965 it shines.
@uperepik:
I also adore C&D's Cube Cut Burley. It takes on the flavor of the aromatic, but gives it some strength and takes away the acidic flavor of the external sweetener.

An old Mexican dessert, perfect description. Always have Burley and Va around and try to keep a few ounces of Perique on hand but it goes fast. Someone turned me on to Half and Half with Perique, I was heavy handed and it tasted great. Makes me wish I didn't give 90% of the tub away beforehand. I actually mixed a pinch of gifted Black Rasberry with Irish Flake and enjoyed it, didn't detract at all from the flake and provided a subtle hint of berry on the exhale.
C&D is Burley.

@theloniousmonkfish:
Perique is very handy to have around. If nothing else, add some to a 60-40 mix of Burley and Virginias for a homemade Va/Bur/Per.
@Cosmic:
Good point. These candy tobaccos need a pedal to the metal mentality to really appreciate.
