So i was smokin an aro out of my cob yesterday and I really enjoyed it and it only needed a couple relights. Only my second time with a cob and I wonder if there is a preference for type of tobacco you all have in a cob. Btw I was on a hike when enjoying this smoke here so it coulda been the venue lending to the enjoyment lol F9B087AE-A02B-4B5D-BCD4-C1D2AE3843CA.jpeg

from my experience I would bet a large part of it. And I mean a large part of it. Not the whole story. But the most single central reason. Is how cobs handle moisture. They smoke like they're dry. Once I've let a blend dry to my preferred point cobs still seem to improve certain aros but not any where near as much as they do when the aro is too moist. Also it seems like the dottle stays pretty dry. In fact I find any overly moist tobacco smokes easier and better in a cob. Burly VA whatever. That's my theory. Oh there seems to be some other magical thing maybe the vegetal sweetness cobs subtly impart helps too.

It's the wide open draw. Briar and meerschaum pipes with a very open draw will smoke similarly. When I still smoked cobs I smoked everything in them.

it's got to be more then that. I get the effect with the Old Dominion ones and they're not that open of a draw. Not saying it doesn't help or isn't a big part of it. But there is more cause if there wasn't the O.D. wouldn't work just as happily with aros.

I like to smoke VaPer and VA flakes in my cobs. They burn better in the cobs, which leads me to believe that (since the bowl size is roughly equivalent, drying time is the same) that the better burn is due to the draw, and the hardwood "trough" down in the bottom (both my cobs are MM's).
