Armellini Wax-Sealed “Chastity Twine” To Verify Unsmoked Status

I bought this pipe as new old stock from an old pipe shop in Akron, Ohio. Has anyone seen something similar to this “chastity twine?” I’m told that Sasseini did something similar to its high-end pipes in the 1980s. Thanks.

I remember seeing these at the Briary years ago. I am not sure if they are still doing these. Or, is Armellini still making pipes?

Sasieni is the only other company that I'm aware of, to do the "chastity" string thing and that was with their limited edition commemoratives

I use to see dozens of pipes with a thin wire rope sealed with a lead seal at Tobacco Road in the Dayton’s Arcade in Mpls in the 70’s and very early 80’s. I think I remember seeing pipes in a fancy blue boxes with a gold nylon string and blue plastic seal down a few doors on Nicollet Mall at Lewis Pipe and Tobacco around that same time.

Armellini seems to be going strong. LePipe usually stocks quite a few. I remember seeing some old Cristiano pipes with the string seal too.

Never seen anything like it. The only thing that comes close is this.

That certainly makes it hard to tell if you like the feel of the pipe in your mouth before you buy. I think a better idea is those "pipe condoms" I saw years ago. The dealer would give you one of those little, thin, rubber disposable things you could put on the mouth piece and then try the pipe.
