So I've learned about VaPers, and they're definitely one of my favorite, if not my top type so far. And there are VaBurs, which like many new smokers I shied away from and thought I wouldn't like. And then I tried Barclay Rex #6, an English with burley, and Skippy sent a free sample of Haunted Bookshop (thanks again Skip!!), and now I'm thinking I have to try OJK and some others.

It's hard to find examples of what (I think) I'm talking about, since it's not a standard category of blends, and it's impossible to distinguish aro's from non aro's when doing a search, unless I'm missing something? Anyone tried their own home blends or done 50/50 mixes of multiple blends?

Anyway, curious if people have recommendations for blends with these three ingredients, and can we come up with name for them? BurVaPers? BurPerVas? Burverts?

The above responses will fix you up. And yes, many people make home blends. Some from bulk blending tobaccos, some just a combo of commercial blends and some have a leftovers jar (which can carry many names) that is an amalgamation of odds and ends that get smoked for an interesting surprise here and there.

Personally, i enjoy blending and currently have 7 home blends on the shelf. There are a couple other tobaccos that i almost always blend before smoking, such as adding 15-25% Exclusive to a bowl of Ryback. Whatever floats your boat. Just have fun doing it. :)

It all depends on the percentage you're after. I'm a big fan of VA/Pers with a touch of burley or dark-fired, but it sounds like you're after something with a lot more burley. For the former, Old Gowrie, Brown Clunee, Scottish Flake, Folded Flake, and Director's Cut are all winners to me.

Ryback is a great blender. Actually, D&R tobaccos in general are some of my go-tos for blending. I wish Three Sails were easier to blend, but that fine shag cut tangles. Fortunately, it is a good smoke by itself.

Go to Tobaccoreviews.com, type in Virginia/Perique/Burley, and you'll find a lot of blends, some of which may even still be in production.
Thanks! Again, I missed the Content option in the search form. My ex used to say I sucked at internet searches despite being an academic, I guess she wasn't just blowing smoke up my . . .

Actually I'm still figuring it out -- I haven't even wrapped my head around the fact that I kinda liked a heavy burley blend. As a new and only occasional smoker, it will probably take me a while to decide what ratio I prefer. But that's part of the fun, right?:col:

Agreed, I just got some Three Sails, and it was like stuffing cotton candy into my bowl. But a nice, easy smoke!
