After trying Frog Morton, I decided that a light aromatic may mix well with Latakia. I sifted through all the samples I received from you guys when I first started here, smelling all of them next to an open bag of C&D Blending Latakia. Sutliff Charlemagne really worked well together with the Latakia in the tin note department so I mixed it 2 parts Charlemagne to 1 part Latakia and packed a bowl. I was pleasantly surprised!!! It was downright good. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried something like this...

I've been mixing my aria with some English blends for the past few weeks and I like it a lot. At times I don't want a strong English nor a light aromatic and the mixing makes for the perfect pair. Last night I cut up some lancer slices and use that as a mixture for my coconut, sweet Danish and Tropical mist (De la concha, NY) tobaccos and it's wonderful!

I still havent gotten into english blends or blends with latakia cause they seem a bit harsh to me, and dont smell that nice so they turn my wife off. this seems to be a good way to work my way into something different than the aeros i smoke now. Dont get me wrong i have smoke a few aeros that were pretty harsh and nasty, well to my taste buds at least. I have wanted to expand my horizons and move into big boy tobacco blends but just havent taken the plunge and spent the cash on something i dont know if i will like and ever smoke more than the first couple of bowl packs and give up. So something lite and on the sweeter side that has some latakia in it that smokes smooth might bee the ticket. any advice and ideas to point me in the right direction of blends that fit that ticket.

Kosher, English blends, in my opinion, are the smoothest. I am new to pipe smoking and stuck to the English/Balkan blends almost exclusively until I fine tuned my smoking technique. The room note of English blends usually are not so nice. Try Frog Morton. Its a very unique smoke. Glad to see you here. This is a good bunch of men(and woman). Welcome. Thanks for the insite Dave, brewshooter, sj, Baron and Jud!!!

I was looking at blends I have tried and enjoyed in the past that might fit this bill. Try C&D Strathspey, Altadis Burma Road or Tartans & Bagpipes. A lot of guys I know enjoyed Altadis Count Pulaski, but it wasn't my cuppa.

C&D actually makes several nice bulk aro's that include Latakia. Captain Bob's is very good as well as Luxurious and Pasha's Dream.
When done right, an aro with latakia makes for a very interesting smoke.

I have some blending lat that I've been meaning to mix with Peterson's 2011 Christmas blend. The stuff is too sweet for me as is. Maybe tonight?

herbinedave,
Of my three C&D Blends, only Captain Bob's Blend contains Latakia. It is a very light English. Only one ounce of Latakia to sixteen ounces. The Category of "Aromatics containing Latakia" is indeed a minority. On the C&D website their is such a category at the bottom of their Aromatics page. Still, there are not that many aromatic blends that contain Latakia. One other example is Three-Star-Blue by Iwan Ries. As for adding Latakia to aromatic blends, it is a fine idea. Get yourself some blending Latakia and simply add to your favorite aromatic blend. There are times when I do add Latakia to Captain Bob's Blend now and then. But, my wife is not a fan of Latakia. She does not object to my blend as it stands. But, she notices any more than 1/16th Latakia, immediately! So, adding Latakia is just fine in my opinion. It is not unusual for some to mistake a sprinkle of Black Cavendish in a blend for Latakia. But, the nose should tell you. Latakia is immediately recognized.

As Pipenovelist informed me, mixing Boswell's Christmas Cookie with a little latakia tastes just like smores. Umm good stuff!
