I had a great time yesterday meeting with one of our valley's premier pipe smokers, @Manawydan , and it got me to thinking - Do we have other pipe smokers in the Coachella Valley that might like to get together from time to time. We have a Tinder Box in Palm Springs so I suspect there are quite a few pipe smokers around here. If you smoke a pipe in the valley, drop a line here. It would great to have a meetup.

Isn't it too hot to smoke there?
Most of June throughout August is problematic. However, today and yesterday were exceptional. September through May is really the outdoor pipe season with October through all of April akin to Heaven. While much of America is buried under snow, we are in short sleeves and enjoying perfect pipe smoking weather.

The population of the Valley has grown. 600,000 in high season and over 300,000 in July. If one in a 100 smoke a pipe, that would mean 3000 pipe smokers in July. That‘s a lot of potential pipe smokers.

Is there no more of another tobacconist near Palm Springs - (Palm Desert?)
We use to have Palm Desert Tobacco, which was an excellent Independent store in the genre of what one would have found several decades ago. Unfortunately, the owner retired around the time of Covid and refused to allow his store to be sold to anyone else - he didn't want the reputation tarnished. It was amazing, and yes, one could smoke in a smoking room. His selection of pipes was top-notch as well as his selection of hard to get tobaccos and estate pipes. He is truly missed. I should note that his shop was on El Paseo Dr - known as the Rodeo Dr. of the desert. He never was short customers or cash.

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks!

Always stopped by when I regularly hit Palm Springs, but that hasn't been so for 6 or more years.

Got some good estates from him, and always enjoyed taking some time there.
