I’m 43 but I’ve always preferred old radio shows over movies. My favorite is probably Johnny Dollar. I also enjoy Basil Rathbone’s Sherlock Holmes and the occasional Gunsmoke.

Primary favorites of the ones mentioned are Johnny Dollar (only Bob Bailey), Gunsmoke, Sam Spade (only Howard Duff) and Dragnet; but also Information Please, The Great Gildersleeve (only Hal Peary), Vic & Sade, all the adventure serials from Carlton Morse, and I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch more.

There's a ton of OTR shows that I enjoy: The Great Gildersleeve, Jack Benny, Fibber McGee and Molly, Johnny Dollar (Bob Bailey only), The Shadow, Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, Philo Vance, Nick Carter, Dragnet, Gunsmoke, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Niles, the Lone Ranger, etc. The are genuinely quite good.

I use a little app called simple radio and it has countless stations from across the globe. I was looking for radio theatre on Thursday night and ended up on some lame horror theatre channel.

Do you have any recommendations of stations I could look up?

I often listen to stuff on "BBC Sounds"; as well as broadcasting what's currently on the various BBC channels they have Radio 4 Extra which re-broadcasts classic comedy/plays/serials from 1940s onwards. Although it's essentially broadcast the BBC's digital channels it does allow you to go back through several weeks of programming.
