First off this is my first post here, so hello! I'm a new pipe smoker, have smoked a pipe for around a year now. I'm 23 years old and I love this hobby. I have not had very many kinds of tobacco. I enjoy Ashton's Guilty Pleasure and Mac Baren's Honey and Chocolate. I do not like Ashtons smooth sailing and I really did not like Sutliff Private stock's French Quarter. I would love to hear suggestions on what to try next. I am looking for a place to buy Sutliff private stock's Maple street. The idea of tobacco that taste like maple syrup and smells like waffles intrigues me.

That brings me to my reason for posting this.
I found a very nice pipe rack with a glass humidor that sits in the middle of it at an antique store. The rack came with 5 estate pipes in it and a broken pipe inside the humidor. I paid 42.00 for this baby and couldn't be happier! It had a tag that read, "humidor glass, Brooklyn N.Y. Pipe stand and 5 pipes; king david, Willard, Broyere, Winston Club, Yello, Bole". I don't really understand what any of this means and was hoping you guys could shed some light onto what that means. Also, the broken pipe is a Grand National Whitehall and it's BEAUTIFUL it seems that the stem has broken off inside the pipe. Is there any way to salvage this pipe?

Welcome to the forums. For your tobacco buys check pipesandcigars.com and smokingpipes.com. The Whitehall is repairable if that is the only problem. Any repairman should be able to remove the broken part of the tenon and fit a new stem to the pipe. Norwoods comes highly recommended. http://www.norwoodspiperepair.com/

Well, Yello Bole is a second/cheaper/WWII Kaywoodie brand. They're called Yello Boles because they were initially made out of something besides briar, and were supposed to be coated with honey prior to smoking. I guess it was probably fairly difficult to get Italian briar during the second world war, since Italy WAS part of the Axis, he he. I don't know anything about post-WWII Yello Boles.

Welcome to the fora! We're a laid back bunch here, and always happy to get someone new!

Sooooooo the pipe that I was most excited about turns out to be broken as well. It is broken in the excat same way as the Whitehall is. It's the king david pipe. I really love that one. What is the going rate to get it fixed you think?

Norwood's rates are quite reasonable...I was going to have to pay no more than ~60 dollars to get a whole new stem for my Kaywoodie Chinrester. As I recall, at least...

Greetings letsgodowntherabbithole, and welcome to the forums. The cheapest I've seen for stem replacement is $25.00; and don't forget to factor in about $5.00 X 2 for shipping. I'm no expert, but I'd say none of the pipes you mentioned is worth that much to repair -- much less so given that they're used (...by somebody else!)
In my opinion it would be better to add a little more money to those projected figures and get yourself a nice new mid-grade pipe: say, a Peterson, Stanwell or Savinelli. Here's a page of manufacturer's "seconds", for under $30.00. These can be excellent buys, and to me buying one of these is better than repairing an S.E.P. (somebody else's problem).
Hobbyists into pipe repair and rescue will have a different take on the situation, but that's my 2¢ worth.

here is a picture :D I love the stand and the humidor! I promptly filled the humidor with favorite tobacco. I don't think I overpaid for this baby at 42 bucks, but I may have.

If you give that stand a wipe with denatured alcohol it should smooth out the finish. I use 0000 steel wool . Keep the steel wool wet with the alcohol or it will want to stick. The difference will amaze you.

Very cool looking and I like how each side has room for 5 pipes instead of even numbers. I had one similar to that at one time but it only held 8 pipes.
