They have to do something with their bodies. I was watching the men's diving last night and it looked like they weren't wearing a damn thing. The women's water polo swimsuit looked like a proper thing to wear then they turned around. Holy Butt Crack, Batman!!
Superbly trained athletes with incredible bodies need money too. And who know more about selling bodies than these types of "porn" sites.

Such a shame Rebecca Romero never got to.. no, wait, she did. Like, 20 years ago.

Since I haven't seen an answer in other Olympic threads, I'll ask:

Are the mixed events new?

What a waste of time. Padding. NBC used to be the top sports network, savvy announcers, few frills, but what a zoo is this year's games.

Turns out that's not all...

There's a new event this year: breakdancing

Looks to me like the same creatures who manage to destroy everydamnthing they $et their $ight$ on with their in$atiable greed have termite-ed their way into the Olympics.

From respected, disciplined, legitimate sports you could see nowhere else, to crap that accompanies every third TV commercial every day of the year.

At the rate things are going, it won't be long before Sex Position Flexibility, Smiling for the Camera, and Hair Tossing in Slow Motion will be Olympic events.

In his 1941 film Never Give a Sucker an Even Break it seems that W.C. Fields accurately presaged the ridiculousness to which the Olympics would devolve some 83 years later:

"Bean-bag...ah, it's very good. Becomes very exciting at times. I saw the championship played in Paris; many people were killed."

It's funny, talking about the Olympics becoming ridiculous, because during the period between 1912 and 1948 olympic medals were awarded for music, literature, painting, sculpture and architecture.
Jean Jacoby of Luxembourg was a two times gold medalist at the summer games. His first gold was for a painting at the 1924 games in Paris. He won his second gold for the drawing titled 'Rugby'. Shown below, at the 1928 games in Amsterdam.

Artistic medals were removed from the summer games from 1952, not due to them not being in the nature of the olympic spirit, but rather down to the difficulty in proving the amateur status of the entrants.

In 1936 the German government sought to include a film category in the olympics, however this was rejected.

The artistic elements of the Olympics disappeared from the programme in the same way that croquet, hot air ballooning, tug of war and pistol dueling have also gone.

I then see nothing wrong with seeing more modern events having their moment in the sun at the games.

Many of us are no longer catered to by the Olympic Committee. Some dislike no longer being catered to. Many can't cope with being so treated. Those folks will simply need to "get over it'" or, let those folks life free in their heads. What the Committee does or doesn't do, what sports they opt to drop or add in reality has no impact on our day to day lives. My suggestion is to accept the situation, move on and enjoy your day. Why expend a bunch of emotion on something in which you have nothing really invested and absolutely no hope of changing. If income is adversely impacted the Committee will adapt and so as the paying media insists.

I think the mixed events started in Rio -2016 and have increased in the number of events with Tokyo -2020 and also at the Winter Olympics in Beijing-2022. They're apparently here to stay.

There's more than sports where you can sell your body. Selling it one way or another is not any different. Willi be looking? No. No going to spend the money either way.

Thanks. What I feared.

It does help the bottom line for NBC and the Olympic Committee: More ads, more tickets, more replays. I am at the saturation point for watching more, but I'll get tough and watch to the end. Except breakdancing, synch swimming, swimming in the Seine, and "much more"!

Unlike China and good ole USSR, a lot of Olympic hopefuls are barely making living in US. Whatever get them to their dream. I call it win win situation.
