I have way over a hundred pipes but have narrowed my regular smokers down to about 6 or 7. As it turns out these are not necessarily the best looking or most valuable, they are the best tools for my way of smoking.
Same with tobacco, I have dozens of blends but find myself regularly smoking the same 3 or 4 blends.
I don’t feel that I am picky but have narrowed both tobaccos and pipes to the ones that I can depend on to give the experience I am looking for.
I just am no longer interested in futzing around with near misses.

I’m picky. Pipes I thought I’d love, have been sold or gifted.

Lessons learned.

Same with tobacco. Trial and error.
Agree 100%. If a pipe does not work for me, I'll gift it. I figure it's better for someone else to show it some love than have it sitting unused in the rack.

Same goes for tobacco. I bought a much-praised chocolate blend thinking I'd love it, being a chocoholic, but I had 2 bowls and hated it. Eating and smoking chocolate are completely different, I found.

There are some pipe shapes, and the Hungarian comes to mind, I just cannot, and will not smoke

I’m sorta with you on that one... There’s lots of good tobacco out there, even drugstore brands. I’ve enjoyed Captain Black and Backwoods. As long as it’s a good English, or aro, burley, ect I like it, but I’d prefer not to smoke out of shape or pipe I don’t like... Now some tobacco is sh%@#$ of course.

if it was Bob's Chocolate flake I agree. Not sure what all the hub bub about that one is. It isn't bad but I could happily never smoke it again.

just to make sure I am being clear. There are more pipes I don't like then tobaccos. I am pretty easy with tobacco except one or two my worst experience has been I'd rather smoke something else. Where with pipes there are plenty I'd never touch.

I am picky about both my pipes and tobacco. I only smoke a very clean pipe and I keep my tobacco at a constant temp and humidity. I actually consider myself a bit of a slob when I have a female living with me.
All through my years, I kept my tennis racquets all three strung all the time and with certain types of strings and different tensions . My golf clubs were a custom set of Titleist Tour Blades and Vokey Oil Can Wedges and they were cleaned by the kid working the cart area. I always tipped him 5 bucks for cleaning them, most didn't tip at all. I kept my basket ball in good shape , my street hockey sticks. Any sports stuff I took care of because as a kid if I didn't my old man would be all over my ass.biggest pipes.
My tobacco is all over my house and my pipes are in a couple of cabinets and a round 6 holder for my biggest pipes. My pipe cabinet both have tinted glass so the stems don't get a mess. One cabinet holds 36, the other 15. Now that I am a cripple I just look at my stuff wishing I could play again.

At first I collected tobacco. But then I sold much of it to afford cigars, I believe for about $3500.00. Of course it didn't last. I didn't know anything about Padrons, so I bought 8 dual torpedos for an exorbitant amount of money from Thompson, which as you know was a mistake. I placed the order online and within minutes they called me to sell me more.

Anyway, when I figured out that all the cool dudes were really into pipes, I got really into pipes.
