This is called "A devoute friend", a Bavarian engraving from 1893. This guy is old school with that Tyrolische pipe :puffpipe:

I'm trying to envision that scene but in 2019 - a hipster with a well oiled beard and skinny jeans rolled up to show off his artisan kicks, putting essential oil patches on his purse puppies tender widdle footies whilst sucking on a shock absorber (vaping - something horrible like atomic grape oil or whatever). In the background the stein would be replaced by a bottle of Kombucha (locally sourced and organically made!) and that shotgun would certainly be an Airsoft AR-15 with a pleather man-purse (it's a satchel!!!) hanging in front of it.
Oh shit, I just realized I'm a curmudgeon. :rofl:

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Pipes & Dogs. Two of life's most enjoyable attributes. :puffy:

That dog with a Fu Manchu saying "No thanks bro, I only drink local IPAs" made me bust a gut. Love it!

Just back from vacation in the Tyrol (the Austrian part). Beautiful country to be sure. I really enjoyed sitting on the wrap around porch of an old alpine house, enjoying a pipe, admiring the alps, and listening to traditional brass music coming up from the little village below. This fellow would be right at home there.

I like that Stein in the background as well
the stein would be replaced by a bottle of Kombucha

Stein means "stone". In German speaking parts of the world people are unlikely to know what you are talking about if you say "beer stein". In this case I'd call that a "bierkrug". Perhaps they used to be called "steinkrug"? I don't know. The big 1 liter glass ones are simply called "Maß".

Given the heatwave here in Germany (39 C/ 102 F) I'll likely be enjoying one or two this afternoon!

Oddly enough, it seems (in my anecdotal experience) that a group people actually getting into hunting (without being raised in the tradition) are people interested in natural foods, foraging, etc., with a lot of overlap with the “hipster” community. They should be welcomed to the ranks

Could be wrong, but I don't think that is what he meant to imply. Never met a hipster that was into hunting, nor a hunter I would call a hispter. At least not here.

Dammit, is that you going and changing your appearance again Georged??? I thought you were supposed to be a cat! Or a purple haired NYC hipster?
Disclaimer - no hunters or hipsters - or cats or spiders of Fu Manchu poodles were harmed in this meme, nor was any slight intended, of the hand or otherwise, please consult your doctor before smoking a pipe or shock absorber or Juul or WTF ever, some assembly required, batteries not included, please seek medical - or other treatment, including pole athletes, strippers or MLB baseball stars [??] - if you experience an erection lasting four hours or longer {and maybe call the Guinness folks too, while you're at it - just sayin'}
Oh well, glad to see you're keeping it smoky. Just don't singe that beard oil for Pete's sake.

Just an attempted visual joke, verporchting. (No worries, I'm still a cat)

seldom would actually be right. While stein means stone, it also refers to the stonewear that some krugs are made of - a grey-ish looking stone like material. I believe this was your classic materials before glassware was mass produced. Also, in my beer krug collection I have several items made from a metal called Zin. While steinkrugs brings out a good taste in dunkels and dark beers, I rarely drink from Zin ... regardless of beer type they all taste like drinking from a metal container, I much rather prefer glass or porcelain.
