I've been wanting one of those bamboo shanked pipes. I wonder if they are as fragile as they appear. They have such a delicate look to them, but I think that is what appeals to me.
Michael. I have a few other pipes with bamboo shanks and I find them to be very strong and sturdy. Unlike wood, bamboo has no rays or knots, allowing it to withstand more stress throughout the length of each stalk. Bamboo is suppose to be stronger than steel. Here's a cool fact! Bamboo's tensile strength is 28,000 per square inch versus 23,000 for steel.
