Just placed another order with Rich at 4noggins. 14 ounce tub of Carter Hall and a 12 tub of Walnut. Even with international shipping it is only $76.00. Total of 26 ounces in all. To buy 26 ounces locally here in Canada would be approximately $260.00 as it runs about $20.00+ per 2 ounce pouch!

I recently got a tobacco order from a US vendor and it works out to $30.00/50g container and I consider that a very fair deal. Usually $50.00 per from Canadian vendors. Even with shipping and duty/customs it is worthwhile to order from US and much better selection to boot.
Sounds like you got a decent deal nsfisher!

Wow mate, where are you located? $30.00 per 50g tin is $10.00 more than we even have to pay here in Canada. You must be Aussie or New Zealand.

LOL, actually I live in Alberta. A decent 50g tin of tobacco here costs $50.00. There are cheaper alternatives here, I had a friend buy a 50g bag of Brigham Royal Viking for $36.00. Provincial sales tax on tobacco is the reason, I believe.

I'm not in Canada, but just curious -- I thought there was a 200g limit on duty-free pipe tobacco? Or is it that the duty, even included in the cost, is still cheaper than buying it locally (if even available there)?
My order was a total of 476g or 17oz if you wish. I fully anticipated that I woould incur duty and sales tax on my order.
My understaning of the "duty free" issue is that it is for people that physically visit the US for more than 48 hours, that is the duty free limit. AFAIK, that does not apply to orders placed by Canadians to US vendors as above.

My understanding is that, that would be a decision that our Customs officials would make on an order by order basis and not to be "expected".

Just got an order today in the mail and they dinged me $50 for a 4 oz. order. Sometimes living in Alberta sucks.
