Found this pipe in an indoor flea market in Quakertown, PA. It is a hand-colored ceramic pipe. The stummel has hand-inscribed a maker(?) and a date (?) of 'Ishod, 1976.' Google searches turn up a few other pipes similar to mine but no info on its history or maker? Anybody got any skinny on this?

How does it smoke? It seems like ceramic would be essentially like a clay pipe, held by the stem, since it seems it would heat up beyond the comfort level for holding the bowl. More than hipster, it looks high artisanal.

The hippies were busy with weed and sex -- not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't think they were into the labor of pottery and stoking a kiln for the most part.

It looks like some pretty sophisticated glaze work on that pipe, organizing the colors in a fairly intricate way. I'm not sure it is a smoker, but it might be a looker.

Well thank you all for your kind comments and most of all to snagstangl for the definitive 'skinny' on this apparent gem I now have. Very gratifying to know its origin story and even its use instructions. I knew I could count on you all.
