Given the fine smoking qualities of the antique C. Maas meerschaum cutty which I purchased a few months back, I can readily understand your fondness for these pipes. They are indeed special.

I just picked off another one on Oi Vay on Sunday thanks to a hot tip from Scrooge. Once it has had the once over from Rick down at Briarville with a new stem etc I will toss it into rotation. If anyone is interested I can post pictures of this latest acquisition.

But reviewing the first photos of the other at the start of the thread, was that a pre-colored stummel that's gotten richer with age? And is there a band of lighter colored meer at the top, or is that an artifact of the photo?
