I was just thinking today while sitting in my car drinking a coffee…. Surprisingly not smoking a pipe.

We have three pillars of good tobacco left;

The Yanks: Corniel and Dhiel/GLP

The Brits: Gawith and Hoggarth, and I think some others that are never available.

And the Dannes: Peterson, OGS, ect and others, stuff I like.

If STG messes up too badly, there are always other options😀. I think short term should fine, so who cares about long term,,, seize the day…🔥. And stock up a bit!

STG is the now last Danish pipe tobacco company, AFAIK. Orlik, Peterson, Stokkebye, etc are all owned by them, all made in the same factory, soon to be joined by Mac Baren.

My other concern is what happens to smaller companies who rely on Sutliff (Country Squire, LJ Peretti, etc.) and blends blended by Sutliff but sold under a distinct label (Seattle Pipe Club, Hearth and Home, Bengal Slices). Where do these folks turn for the components, blending, and distribution?
The blends made by Sutliff for STG/P&C will either move to the P&C building in Bethlehem, PA, move to STG in Denmark or be eliminated.

Keep in mind that STG may choose to continue to source and use/sell the same base tobaccos that Sutliff uses. Or not.

Correct, or will be soon, old Mac B and spin-offs are still available, as this whole discussion involves STG taking over Mac B, and lines. Under Dannes I forgot to mention STG, which I did just after…. I still like some STG stuff now, NightCap.

I meant we have other options in the US and UK.

Pardon me if this has been answered before, but if STG produces 40% of these blends into the future, will that come that the expense of production of other STG products? What I mean to say is, will something like Nightcap be harder to obtain because STG won't produce as much because they are now also producing Mac B and Sutliff?

No telling. The future’s not ours to see. Que sera, sera.

In the business world if you are forced to make a Sophie’s choice it generally means letting the uglier kid die. In practice that means the less profitable blend. So if Nightcap has relatively attractive margins and relatively significant volume then it’ll survive. If not, off to oblivion it goes. Note that while there’s almost certainly a numeric threshold relative performance plays a role too; this is where capacity (and other) constraints come into play.
