I recently picked up this estate pipe from my local tobacconist. The shape and finish of the bowl and the overall shape really caught my eye, and my instincts were right as this thing smokes great! It packs easily and the smaller, funnel-shaped bowl makes for a shorter smoke, which I appreciate.

I've had some trouble identifying it though. The employee at the shop believes that it's a Savinelli, but I'm not sure. The logo is not familiar to me and the markings on the underside of a shank are too worn to make anything out. Can anyone help me ID this pipe?

I think you're right! The logo matches, and I can just make out a "Made in Denmark" stamp on the shank if the light hits it just right. That's so cool, thanks!

Yes. Royal Danish. I have a beautiful Flame-Grain Billiard.

I don’t know how well you can see with the lighting, but that’s a Stanwell on the left and a Royal Danish on the right.

My first thought was Stanwell. I've never owned a Stanwell, but I've owned multiple Savinelli's and new right away it wasn't a Savinelli. Nice to see I was correct in my thought, or at least pretty close. ;)

Looks like a great pipe. Enjoy!

Yes, shape 63M, and that smooth relief leaf on an otherwise rusticated or sandblasted stummel is classic Danish... I've seen it on many Danish pipes, and I've never seen it on a non-Danish pipe. I have a Poul Hansen that does the same thing.

FWIW, the early Royal Danish pipes were often smooth pipes with near to flawless briar. They had moulded stems and weren't as highly finished as a concession to cost at a time when Stanwell was using the best briar available.

Excellent pipes.

The smooth paneled blasted pipes seen to be of a later vintage, and yet still of wonderful quality.
