Hello all,

I both found and scooped up a Kaywoodie today rather spontaneously, and it seems to be rather different than most that I’ve been able to find. Here are some pics:

It just looked so interesting, and at the price I got it for it being NOS, I felt pretty good about it being my first Kaywoodie. Now, I was just wondering if anyone has any info on its odd Relief Grain/Smooth exterior, its lack of stamping, or if you’ve seen one like this or have one yourself. I read that it’s probably from around the 1950’s, but if you have anything at all to offer, you’d have my gratitude, as I love knowing as much as I can about my pipes, even if it turns out this pipe is just a fancy looking basket pipe. If it’s any help with dating, it has a 3 hole stinger, and thanks!

It knew this was going to pop up here! 😂😂

I was looking that one together with the one I bought shortly after from the same seller.

Beautiful pipe! I’m sure it will be a wonderful smoker. I’m anxious to fire a bowl on mine!

Also NOS.

This is the embassy line, from what I know shortly produced for 2 years during the 70s.

I saw a Canadian from the same line recently being sold.

It’s a nice kaywoodie for sure and a wonderful piece for a collection.

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, I hope this doesn’t bother you, but does anyone know why the pipe is double stamped?

Any guess on the production date also from the kaywoodie experts out there?

Double stamps are not that uncommon. The person could’ve slipped after a partial stamp and didn’t realign it carefully before pressing harder. This might be interesting reading on the process.

One of my Savinelli Giubileo d’Oro 660 pipes has a double stamp—you can see the faint extra 6 below:

This is supposed to be at the upper tier of Savinelli’s regular line, but, it was still released with this “flaw.” The stamp got pushed into the shank lightly, was not realigned well, and then more deeply stamped. Unfortunately, it happens—you can’t expect that they’d trash a high quality pipe because of a mistake made that late in the stage of production.
