I know that briar is the industry standard, but I found a beautiful piece of amboyna burl and made two freehand pipes. similar to briar in density and hardness, this is one of the rarest woods in the world. My question is, has anyone ever heard of a pipe made out of amboyna before..

I've never heard of amboyna, much less any pipe made of it. How good is it for pipe smoking? 8O

Here's a link with pictures; it looks like really neat stuff. "Pipe material" would have been my first notion too!

I know amboyna is wonderful wood for turning but have never seen a pipe made from it. Keep us posted.
