Recently, the snow forced me into the garage with the torpedo heater. I was enjoying a good smoke with my new cob, blowing smoke etc. Finally, I realized the pipe was out and I was just blowing steam. Ooops.

I wonder the same when I take the dogs out. It has been as cold as a well diggers ass in NJ and it looks like I am smoking with or with out the pipe.

HA HA HA...I'm glad to find out that I'm not the only one who has made this mistake.

It usually happens to me with flakes. I smoke flakes very slowly so that I am usually getting just a thin whisp of sweet spicy smoke anyways. If I am outside, I can go for 5 min or so before I realize I am not smoking and just blowing steam due to the cold air.

confusing breath vapor and smoke has happened to me on the carport...especially if there's overcast on a cloudy day or later at night.

It is mildly embarrassing but seems to be common enough. It can happen too easily when you are outdoors in the cold - I always end up puffing too fast in the winter because it's freezing outside; next thing you know, the bowl starts to get hot and you're tongue bitten. Then you lay off and take little sips, after awhile those billows you're expelling are nothing but steam if you aren't watching it - I usually call it quits and dump the dottle, at that point!

We had "freezing rain" today.

I had a great smoke out on the hospital's parking deck.

While everyone was in a hurry to get inside, I reveled in the cold.

But, I definitely could tell the difference between the "steam" I was breathing, and the Vanilla Cavendish I had stoked in my Poker.
