I was considering picking up this meer but this aluminum tenon is giving me pause as I’ve never had a pipe like this. Is this something I should avoid or is it not a problem?

It does the job. You can have someone with skill replace it with the other style. Someone will chime in with a good source to send it to. I have found this style to not work for me. The stems feel plastic.

I’m thinking it might be ok and I might just pull the trigger on this pipe. Some meers from the 60s/70s even have a drinkless stinger which is just wild to me.

I went ahead and got it. Only 42 from the bay. An unsmoked, unsigned estate meer from prob the 60s/70s. It was so inexpensive I’ll have no problems chucking it if its not up to snuff. If it smokes well I got a great deal.
I have plenty of pioes with aluminum tenons dating back to the 30's. No issues yet

Absolutely no problems with aluminium tenons.
You do have to be careful not to unscrew the tenon where it is threaded into the shank as you don't want to strip the thread in the mortise.

These are 2 pipes I've had since the late 1970s - both still in fine condition.
The 1st is a Royal Copenhagen double-walled porcelain
The 2nd is a Kiko Tanganyikan meer
