Congratulations!!
Not sure what the "biz" is, but im sure life will be different.
Ive been trying to retire for the last 5 years. :)
Things I want to do pull me one way, while things I need to do pull me the other.
I WANT to retire to the mountains.
I NEED to make sure all the critters are healthy and safe until my replacement is properly set up.

A demanding biz to be sure. But, one a person can dedicate themselves to. Hopefully, you will make the adjustment and enjoy a bit of leisure as much as you enjoyed the rewards of work. Local theater perhaps. Best wishes on retirement. Revel in it if possible. bdw :sher:

I fully expect you will find uses for your talents if you wish.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Good. I retired when I chose to, not when I was forced to.

The Animation business, like other parts of the film and television business, is going through some difficult times, which is my polite way of saying that it's in the shitter.

I hope that people are able to make the transition, either to more work, or to other work, without suffering any great loss. California has finally woken up to the threat, and is making money available to keep employment in the state. It remains to be seen how effective that will be. But...

Not my circus, not my monkeys.

I’ve been nearly almost but not quite retired for six months.

I miss being younger, but I don’t miss doing it today one bit.

Other lawyers call me for advice or to visit and I refer them cases, and I have a few files to wind up.

It’s hard to believe, none of them there disasters befell me in 41 years.

I sleep easy and if there’s somebody in this world mad at me I don’t know who they’d be.

The biggest surprise is I earn more money not doing a thing off investments than I did trying to keep open a full service one lawyer office.

I don’t miss overhead and salary and tax payments at all.:)

Now, if my wife gets better, is my only concern.

Otherwise, I’m getting really good at doing nothing.:)

Enjoy it.

You’ve dodged all the bullets.

Let the young folks hammer at it, it’s their turn.

Congrats and best wishes for a great retirement. There will always be something to do, and now, more time to do it.

It’s sad when you see the enshittification of a business you’ve devoted a career to, but leaving on your own terms is the best outcome. Been there.

It’s hard to see where things will land. What a mess. The need for narrative work will remain but how will this strange chapter in filmmaking land? Some say Hollywood is dead and this is a legitimate possibility. It’s tricky bc the film/tv landscape has spread out across the country and yet there is talk about studios reconsolidating, but to where? Atlanta, Nashville, New Mexico? Things are so all over the place and in flux it’s terrifying and there is no stable ground in sight. What are your thoughts sable?

And that should say spread out across the globe rather than just the country due to production going to the cheapest place possible.
