I always feel a little guilty about the pipe stuff, which is undoubtedly part of the pleasure. Right now I'm smoking a Tsuge "tasting pipe," which, it turns out is full size and has an elegant if light sandblast finish. It seemed to be a sort of clearance item, but Tsuge can't do a pipe without doing the fit-and-finish to the fare-thee-well.

Mine was for a big ol' Savinelli estate pipe, Peterson's Irish whiskey blend,MacBaren's plumcake, Stokkebye peaches & cream and a tin of Granger. Really wish I could find the Irish whiskey blend in bulk, I love that stuff.

I still have another tin of Granger on backorder too.

I have never bought a pipe or tobacco with anything but discretionary income. I have also never paid one cent of interest on a credit card in my entire life. If a bill comes in it gets paid immediately.

I have used zero percent financing and always paid before the interest was due. I once bought 28k worth of hvac units on a zero percent card and paid it all off before interest was due.

My best move was taking 200,000 of of my home equity account at 4 percent and then did a private lending deal where I got 14 percent so for 2 years I had the bank giving me 10% on their money. I loved those checks when they came in.

Like Cigrmaster, I payoff my credit cards every month. Since our cards give us 1% back on our purchase, my wife and I use this as our fun money. I use most of my funds on pipes etc, and she sends hers on quilting stuff.

Also, I have set up an automatic payment for the credit cards each month. Once I receive the bill, I payoff the remainder. This way I will never have a late payment.

Only use debit cards for personal use. Credit card debt is the worst thing possible financially. We purchase materials for our company with Amex for the airline points. Paid off before due every month.

I use credit cards in lieu of debit cards almost always. I feel it is a safer option in terms of protecting my finances. If my cc number gets stolen I can freeze the account. But if my bank account gets compromised, I'm screwed.

I check my credit card balances several times a week and make a payment whenever there is a balance so I don't even wait for the statement to arrive. I also try to maximize many of the benefits provided by credit cards (cash back, Southwest miles, extra insurance on purchases, etc.).

Boy they sure seem like a lot of pipe for not much money. Smokes well?

Personally, I avoid credit cards, particularly for stuff like this. I can be very impulsive, and the interest rates can be borderline usurous on some of them. If I ever got a good mileage card, I might consider using it, but only for things I could afford to immediately pay off. No judgment towards anyone else here, it's just my own philosophy.

Credit cards are great to have if you treat them as debit cards, and pay them off at the end of the month. That's how I started using mine. I was so dutiful that I always qualified for credit increases, all the way to ~$29,000. Unfortunately, it's easy to get hooked into the mirage of 'woo, I "have" money!' In my case, lack of work pushed me into dipping into the credit card constantly, even to pay for utilities. At other times I invested in equipment hoping to recoup it in the short term with sales. When the sales never materialised I couldn't pay the debt.
