Does this really mean the stem is also completely made out of briar? Can't believe that would be the case. Wouldn't one's teeth scar the briar up?
Just curious.

It looks like the stem is briar to me, you would just have to be more careful with it, but I would be worried about the finish where it comes in contact with your mouth.

I've never seen a pipe quite like that one before. My first thought upon looking at it was the stem was made of some form of Cumberland. But looking at it from a different angle, the stem might actually be wood.
I wish I could offer a definite answer. I'm as curious as you. Thanks for sharing the link!

Yes, and yes. Both LHS/Purex and Kaywoodie made them for a while back in the 40s and 50s.
Here's one that I have, but I don't plan to smoke it, so I won't be chewing on wood anytime soon.

Speaking of Eltang, check this one out. It appears to be made from a single, solid piece of briar -- amazing.

Yes, it is all briar. First made and successfully marketed by KB&B (Kaywoodie). I think it was short lived, 1950-55, because of the issue with the wood wearing away from heavily batting stems. That is why a pristine condition Kaywoodie All briar is worth so much now.

The all briar was made from 52-55 and yep briar stems are a pain to care for but they sure look nice.
