Good evening! I was recently given a full bent sitter with a fairly tall stack. It is briar and has small leaves carved into it. It has two markings, one on either side of the shank. The first marking says "PERSIAN"... and on the other side it says "ALGERIAN BRIAR" and "made in France". I can find no information on this pipe and am hoping that someone from the educated pipe community might be able to help me. I realize that a photo would help immensely, and I will post one if no one can help (and after I get it cleaned up). It looks pretty old and has seen much better days.

I'm certain I would be unable to help even with a picture but the rest of the chaps here have an unbelievable amount of knowledge and a picture would surely help them help you.

I'd guess the pipe was made in France from Algerian briar, neither of which is the least bit unusual. I think the Persian stamp is the name of the style of pipe, the way my Butz-Choquin is called a Caprice. Persia is the ancient name of what today is mostly Iran, so that wouldn't be a current nation as the point of manufacture, I don't think.
