I'm not a fan of AI and the massive changes it will bring to the world, but positive and negative. I've been highly suspicious of Google AI because, to date, the returns I've been getting were pretty poor. Garbage in, garbage out, that sort of thing. But of late, the AI-generated search results have improved markedly. Here are the results of a search looking for information on optimal moisture level for aging tobacco. it's impressive, and cites PipesMagazine and Pease.

All of this AI evangelizing reminds me of the evangelizing of digital technology in the early 90’s, a lot of promise down the road and very mixed results in the present.

AI companies have stolen thousands of copyrighted materials to use in “training” their tech while claiming that they didn’t. A thick headed judge granted them “fair use” protections, though that’s being appealed.
Artists posting their work on line are now embedding their images with software designed to make it invisible to AI.
AI may have stolen the materials, but Russian and China already had the materials.
Tell me about it. My copyrighted restoration of the pre WW1 Barling catalog was published on line by some jerk in China.
