I'm surprised after 15 years you can taste the latakia at all. I've found in my experience they have a tendency to go "flat" after 5 years or so.
"Subtle"? My first experience with latakia was a generous sample of Becks ol' Limey Bastard from 4Noggins.Diesel? I never got that. I get campfire and enjoy that flavor explosion. Then again I trouble with detecting more subtle sweet tastes in tobacco. That's right, my name is John and I have a tobacco handicap! They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.Don't look at me. :sniff: I'm still a man....I'm still a pipeman damit!
Nice! Was the tin opened or sealed?Over the past six months I’ve wanted to try an aged flake but have none since I haven’t been a flake guy in the past. Tonight’ I found this sitting in the back of an old tobacco drawer. 15 year old Germain Latakia Flake. I’m hoping it surprises me in a good way

Fresh latakia is just too much for me. It is LIKE diesel exhaust on my tongue. A little too spicy, too campfiry, too... salty. My tastes are tuned to subtlety, delicate nuances, and fresh latakia is like a screeching fire alarm in a room that has been full of quiet classical music.Diesel? I never got that.
