I realized last night that I have 120-something pipes, but reach for the same three over and over again. That the same three account for between a quarter and a third of ALL my smokes.

Why? Because they're mucher morer comfy-er, and taste muchly more gooder. puffy They also are less "fussy". Meaning fill, light, and (pretty much) forget. They smolder like an underground coal fire.

All are quite large with tall bowls, so ideal for watching a movie or reading a book. Large & tall chambers also taste better because the next puff gets to marinate in warm and fragrant unburned tobacco.

They smoke dry, are perfectly drilled, and the stem & button are super comfy. Their hand feel is also excellent.

They're too meaty for driving----never mind jet skiing, base jumping, or riding Brahma bulls---but that's not a weakness, just a "mission" thing.

Fit and finish is top level, and the shapes are unique. One of a kind. Since shapes need names for both fun reasons and practical ones, their maker dubbed them the LCDog, the Dome, and the Jug.

The funny part is how different they are from what I ever expected to even own, never mind be my Best Evers. Not British made, not a classic shape. If a time traveller told me ten years ago the pipes you see here would be my favorites, I'd have laughed and told him his phone booth needed recalibrating.

Nice pipes, I am in a similar position. I have about 120 pipes and about a quarter or more of my smokes are with three of them. The comfy, no fuss, straight forward good smoking qualities for the win. Mine are pedestrian compared to these but they are reliable.

Zounds! I had you figured for an LB man. I have a pipe similar to the one on top, but with inferior lines. I consider it my ugliest pipe, and have come close to getting rid of it. Unfortunately, it's my best smoker.

The first shape I ever chased was the LB, so your guesser is good.

Have a 7-day set of the critters, including a 472 (the LB shape number was changed for a couple years in the 1930's, no one knows why), that have their own rack.

I definitely still like all that sort of stuff, it just doesn't get reached for as much as it did before the Finlay Era.

I’ve got two Finlay pipes and they are just incredible pipes. Style, drilling, smoking, stem work, just everything about them rocks. Plus, he’s a cool guy to correspond with!

Have a little over half the number of pipes you have but still far more than I really need as there are only around a dozen which I really love. Were it not for wanting to give my favorites a weekly rest between smokes, would probably be happy to smoke only that dozen. Probably most of us with more than a dozen pipes would admit that they only have a handful that really get them going.

This thread has me re-evaluating my pipe smoking. Smoked a couple of pipes today that were either a pain in the a** to smoke or were otherwise just not doing it for me. Smoked them just to give them a "bit O' exercise." But then figured, to heck with smoking anymore of my lower tier pipes. Life's too short to put up with semi-crappy pipes.:sher:
