I’ve been looking at a pipe for sale and I like the pipe and it is at a nice price.

However, there is a problem. There is a very small “crack” right where it transitions to the shank. Looks in the pics like it might be about 3/8” long. Doesn’t look like it really goes in very deep at all, and the seller says the inside of the chamber has no fissures, cracks, or anything out of the ordinary.

If I buy this pipe, is it a matter of time before the little surface crack grows into something terrible?

Probably not structural, so unlikely to get worse with smoking.

(small chance there is a soft spot---or even a void---underneath it, though, in which case nothing can be done in any event)
