This morning I prepared a bowl with 50/50 Carter Hall and Chatham and figured, why not? Maybe they’ll compliment one another.

I purchased a 16 ounce dark roast, found a pleasant spot to tune into AM radio and lit up. The next thing I know, I’m using a pipe tool to dump and I’m on the road again.

From a cabinet in my garage I selected a near empty can, gave a little shake to be sure I had enough for a bowl and drove back to the waterfront where I mindlessly loaded from the can while listening to talk radio.

About mid bowl, when I tapped out the ashes to refresh the flavor, the closing click of my zippo snapped me out of my pipe dream.

Had I actually driven home to change tobaccos?

Advanced Codger Syndrome has been gradually coming over me. I enjoy the relaxation that comes from my pipe but I only “crave” one tobacco.

You may presently be ACS-negative and TAD-positive but everyone has a blend that clicks.

So if you’ve read this far, kindly answer the following question:

When you can’t decide what to smoke, there’s a blend that you’ll always reach for. What is it?

Tell us.

An interesting post. I tend to walk around with an unlit-pipe stuck in my mouth all day. I have sat in a NY bar once on the phone and instinctively reached for my matches to lite my pipe before the barman reminds me of the NY 'No Smoking' ordinances. I don't think that is an example of ACS but more being a creature of habit. As for Granger I must give that a go sometime if for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity.

When I was a cigarette smoker I definitely stuck to my one brand, Marlboro Red. Once in a blue moon I’d get a wild hair and switch brands for a change, usually Camel Filter, and stick with them for a few months or years. The Turkish of the Camels was always an adjustment due to the sourness and I didn’t care to alternate the two regularly.

With pipe tobacco, I love the variety and can’t think of one blend that I gravitate towards.

My ultimate don't think about it smokes are LLRR/Sutliff RR and Granger at the moment. I've purchased pouches of other popular codger blends to see if any are worth stocking up on, but I'm happy with what I have.

If I'm at home and have time and still don't want to think about it, it's usually Savinelli 140th.

I recently bought a can of LLRR to compare to what remains in my jar of Edgeworth RR and I was disappointed. I’ll likeky never get thru this 14 ounces. Maybe when it ages.

At the end of this thread, I will summarize with a list of all respondents “go to’s”

Not looking to rehash a “desert island” thread.

Looking for everyone’s most frequently reached for tobacco. Your comfort blend.

I never got to try the Edgeworth, but I suspect that I would have loved it. I guess it's for the best when I think about it, as LLRR hits the spot for me.

not really. I go through phases though. I am more of weekly smoker. More likely to have what I smoke in the mourning and what I smoke in the evening that doesn't change for a week or two sometimes three. Of course I am a Gemini and whether you believe in that stuff or not my thirst for variety and novelty certainly lines up perfectly with what astrology says about me.

NormalBob, ?
I don’t know that “fresh” original Edgeworth would do more for you than the new Lane RR. You like the new and that’s all that matters.

I can’t remember my buying it, but what I jarred was a pouch many years ago and if you like cocoa forward Burley, what I have aged excels in that department. Very tasty.

Haha! You are correct, of course, I should be happy that I like what's offered.

Cocoa forward burley in the morning with coffee can't be beat.
