I picked this one up tonight. I have been watching it for about a week now. It is a 1968 or 1969 Kaywoodie Regent. I fell in love with it when I saw it and I picked it up for what I feel was a decent price.
From the seller:
Here’s a rare KAYWOODIE Regent, in a classic 50B shape. The Regent is the only Cumberland Stem (black with brick red vulcanite grain, like the Dunhill Cumberland) and was made from 1968-69 only! This is one of my favorite Kaywoodies, and they are hand made. The briar is a contrasty mix in a deep russet stain, with excellent character and light normal use. Shows a little darkening on the rim, stamping is clear and readable. Stem has great looking detailed graining in the Cumberland, showing rich color, (designed to mimic wood grain) with light tooth impressions. Overall the pipe is quite nice looking, reconditioned and ready to smoke.
Markings: KAYWOODIE Regent, IMPORTED BRIAR; 50B

Approximate Dimensions:

Overall Length – 5 1/2”

Bowl Height – 1 3/4”-

Inside Diameter – 3/4”+

Chris that is a gorgeous pipe, it goes great in your American collection.Great looking dhape and thee stem work looks really well done. You definitely need to let me know how it smokes as I need to add a Kaywoodie to the collection. Congrats buddy on another great addition to the collection, I had no idea you were looking at these, holding out on me pal? LOL

Haha, sorry Harris. I didn't have a clue you were interested in these older American pipes.

I have had my eye on a few of them mostly Kaywoodie but they all seem to come with stingers and I never want a pipe with one of those. I have a great old Peretti straight grain that is a hell of a pipe. The stem is great, and I believe it was made by Edwards with Algerian briar. I am still trying to smoke a Lakeland ghost out if it or I would smoke it more. I should just send it out because after 5 attempts I am getting no where.

Chris:
Congratulations on your new pipe. The brand has a very interesting history. I have read that in the past Kaywoodie pipes were more expensive than Dunhill pipes. An excellent Christmas gift and an excellent addition to your collection.
Harris:
Check out Kaywoodie pipes on Dave Neeb's site. He has some good ones including the 150th anniversary pipe unsmoked.

I was bidding on this aswell I'm glad you got it for some reason I decided to let it go cause I have others going on right now. Let us know how it smokes it is quite the kaywoodie I probably would have bid more if I still had my other kaywoodie pipes but I moved those a while ago. Congrats.

I received my Kaywoodie Regent today. It is a nice little pipe with approximately a group 3 plus or small group 4 bowl size. I smoked some Peterson's University Flake and it performed nicely. Does it smoke as well as my artisan pipes? No, but it did smoke cool and dry throughout the bowl. The screw on stem aligns perfectly with the briar. It has a standard draw similar to what you would find on factory pipes with an 1/8 draft hole. The pipe is really well made with no fills. It smokes well enough and sure is a beauty in my eyes. Overall I am quite pleased with this purchase.

Many collectors underestimate the quality of Kaywoodie pipes IMO, thinking that they are just a Drugstore inexpensive wall pipe. Nothing could be further from the truth. Especially the old push tenons whoch are not seen as often as the ball fitment pipes. And the new Hand made push tenon pipes are excellent buys and great smokes as well. You did well with that Regent, a nicely grained and well cared for briar. Congratulations on a fine acquisition.

As much as I love this pipe, It is going to a new home soon. I am afraid that I must part ways with this one. I lost some sleep over it but I think it's time for her to meet her sister.
