EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

For those who store tobacco in Mylar for aging, do you use those little O2-reduction packs?

I've been accumulating a bit of bulk tobaccos for aging in the cellar and wonder if it's good to add those O2 packs or better to simply put in the mylar, push out as much air as possible and then just heat seal it.

Thank you in advance for any hints and/or opinions. And thank you to everyone on this forum who share so much knowledge, I really appreciate it!

I don’t think you’ll find much difference either way except that it can help to compact the package a bit. It won’t be the same as a vacuum seal. I wouldn’t buy them to use but if it came with your bags, like mine did, go for it.

Thanks ofafeather, that's what I've been doing - just adding the packs that came with the Mylar. I just hope it doesn't draw the moisture out of the tobacco. I'd hate to open it up in five years and find tobacco dust. :)

I just recently used a vacuum seal on some tobacco. People will tell you not. But I want to know myself. I believe there is still some air in there that will contribute to aging. I sure like the smaller resulting packages.

I add one to my mylar bags and then heat seal them closed. I have half a closet full of mason jars all nice a tidy in a plastic tote now. So much better imo. I have maybe 2yrs into this method. Every bag I have opened, since sealing them 2 yrs ago, is pristine.

That's great to hear peteguy. Thanks. I'll keep using up the ones I have.
