Here are two Drinkless Civics. Both made in London England and both shape #2.

One has a very nice chamfering of the rim. The other is flat.

One accepts the attached Stinger, one is not drilled for it.

Subtle changes to the bit are there as well.

The nomenclature of the stamping is identical in every way.

Here they are.

Sure looks like the pre synchrostem KBB stinger. Maybe KBB supplied them to Civic. They had a factory in London.
Well there's no doubt about that at all...
Even the Drinkless name stamped on the shank.
Pipedias article on Civic certainly puts their beginnings in line with the Drinkless stinger as it were.

Also the stem logo (kinda looks like the tip of the stinger don't it) is the exact same used for the old 20s era Kaywoodie Shellcrafts.

Definitely some intermingling.

Yes.

Reiss-Premier joined Cadogan on a limited basis at the end of 1928, some five months after the initial parties merged. R-P received 25k Class B common shares in exchange for contributing some KBB assets (I would guess consisting of limited IP rights in regard to the Drinkless). The Drinkless was shortly thereafter available from at least two Cadogan sister companies: on a few Civic pipes (Civic was one part of the Salmon family’s contribution to the formation of Cadogan), and on some pipes offered by Marechal Ruchon (owner of the GBD brand, and part of A. Oppenheimer, one of the entities contributed by the Adler family). Confusing, I know, but this is just part of the first two layers of the Cadogan onion

In any case here’s an early announcement to the American trade about the availability of the Drinkless on a GBD pipe:

Thank you JGuss!!

I figured the pipe with the stinger was late 1920’s based on the Kaywoodies with a push tenon.

The pipe without the stinger I figured towards the end of the agreement based on lower quality workmanship.

Both pipes are great smokers. The large four ball stinger has always been a great smoker in any of the Kaywoodie pipes it’s in.

The smaller three ball and four ball stingers are terrible. I think it’s more a function of smaller draft hole. Remember, I’m a sub sample of one.

I can agree inasmuch as I love those old KBB and Reiss Premier Drinkless pipes. Never had one that didn't smoke like a champ.
