Well as fate would have it I had just ordered a few more

Dutch Gouda clays as I love the way they smoke esp

Marlin and ODF (some of my fav blends)...
So I packed the old clay gal (over a year old and smoking so so sweet)

with a bowl of Marlin flake this morning and walked out onto the patio

(tile flooring) when I felt the stem slip from my jaw ...poof/the bowl hit

the floor and shattered :-( with shards of clay everywhere and my

beloved cube-cut Marlin flake blowing around in the wind ; I said

goodbye to an old friend and welcomed the new one with a fresh

bowl of Marlin...also as fate would have it/this bowl of Marlin in the

new white (as the fresh fallen snow) clay is giving me one of the

best smokes of Marlin that I have ever had.....

I know a few members have mentioned them before and said they

smoked very nice...I was thinking about the classic (full bend) in

black would be my style

Ouch SD! Sorry for your loss but glad you found solace in your new friend. At the risk tempting fate, I think I would like to try a clay. Anyone have any suggestions for purchasing one?
EDIT: just noticed the link but does anyone make a simpler tavern style pipe where I can pick up two or three fairly cheap?

I love my clays and have had a few breaks now, though I did get a coupla of the civil war pamplin style pipes from pipeshop.com and fiddled with the reed a bit(cut it shorter and sanded a groove near the end) to make it an easier clench, somebody with better woodworking skills than me(amlost anyone) good probably spruce the reed stem up nicely. I'm looking into at home methods for maybe bending the reed to make a hanger but thus far I just keep snapping it.

Yeah, for the simple tavern clay I really really like the Dutch Gouda-style

one, good sized bowl , which will give you a good 30-45 minute

smoke of pure unaltered tobacco flavors all for about $11./ea

So, you may remember me recently looking into a clay purchase of my own. Here's my new clay:

Saddened, I quickly replaced it, so here's my new, new clay:

Thanks brothers; On a positive note, we are all chatting about

clays. We haven't had a thread going about clays in awhile
Here is some interesting reading about some of them;

Also have to get To Keens some day in NYC (check out the ceiling ;-)

I love my clays, the elizabethan clays give me a quick smoke, and the larger one's are favorites for B&M trips since they tend to retain very little spectral energy from previous tobaccos. Plus I can smoke the same clay all day with no gurgle

That's rough dude... but my question is how do they feel texture wise? I hate the feeling of dry unglazed clay.
