So recently browsing the local classifieds i come across an ad for a collection of 40+ estate pipes, tobacco containers, and a few stands. Seller is asking $2500.

I contact them and ask for a few more pictures and some details about the pipes. He sends me about 15 pictures of some of the pipes- they are all on the lower end, heavily smoked, some with mismatched stems etc.

I thank him for sending me the additional photos and tell him what I thought, that they were fairly common factory pipes that needed a lot of attention. While they may have some value to someone, to me they weren't worth what he was asking, and that any offer I made would be insulting, so I wasn't going to. He thanked me for the interest and that was that.

My point is, it was refreshing in this age of internet ads to have an honest back and forth with a seller and not have anybody take anything personally ?
