Finally found a place to talk about tobaccos and pipes! I believe I'm the only man in ten cities that smokes a pipe!No B&M,just SWR,CH,or BR, at the local cigarette store.I found this site a blessing. Now,instead of boring the hell out of my wife and friends,I can chat with you guys and gals about a passion of mine.Pipe smoking, totally different than cigarettes.I smoked Marlboro for 23 years, but the pipe,it is a different in a league of its own.The different blends,I never once wanted to try a different brand other than Marlboro. My TAD has taken off like gasoline since I found this site. You guys have helped me so much in a few days. So,scream it from the mountaintops,I AM A PIPE SMOKER!

Yes sir. I was a ten year cigarette smoker. wish someone would have told me about the joys of pipe smoking those ten years ago. I want to know why anybody would smoke cigs after discovering latakia.

Its a great site to chat. My wife teases me about talking to the "Old Goats" but I think she is secretly happy that I am not on Facebook ... where old girl friends and nefarious friends can look me up.
I was a cigarette smoker for 15 years before I switched to a pipe. My Dad chain smoked a pipe and I thought - "Well, I enjoy smoking...let's try something that appears to be a little more healthier." I gave it a whirl for 3 days - gave up - as I didn't see the point and threw my pipe and tobacco in the garbage. However, later that 3rd day I was reading and I thought I would give it ONE MORE TRY! 25 minutes later - as I was quietly puffing away - Eureka! I got it...whatever "it" is. Haven't touched a cigarette since and have never looked back. :)

However; I have smoked a pipe off and one since about 75.

I finally wised up, and haven't looked back.
Glad to have you guys with us.

Glad to have ya here, Fullbent. It's much nicer having somewhere to talk pipes with people who actually share that passion. I'm on a roll today, smoked Prince Albert and have smoked Blue Note in 3 different pipes, lol.

Same here. My wife doesn't worry about "evil influences" on the "pipe site" as she calls it.

That's exactly how I feel aout it. Bar the two of my friends I've managed to convert to the pipey ways over the last year, there's nobody to talk to about it in the flesh. And very, very, very few people around with the strength of knowledge and experiance this place offers.

Pipe smokers appreciate the friendship of other men who similarly appreciate the briar. The friendship counts and it is very meaningful. This site and one or two others has enabled new friends all around the world that would not have happened otherwise. I thoroughly enjoy the smoke and the friendships I have made friends from Northern California and Oregon to Southern Florida and Tennessee, all the way to South Africa and of course Jack Peterson in Sterling Illinois. So with the help of the computer one can fully appreciate the Brotherhood of the Briar along with the pleasure of the smoke. My hope along the way (Kevin this is for you) is that this site could be set up for communication between groups of friends. It would be great if private messages could be sent to groups of friends that we all have made all at once so that we could have multiple virtual group chat rooms. One of my good friends did not even discover the message feature for over six months.

Agreed, although it's relative. Before I found this site, I had a small bag of McClelland Burley and a pouch of Plumcake. Now I took part in the box pass, and I've got a whole set of mason jars with (admittedly small) amounts of about ten blends and I'm constantly fighting the urge to buy more. Bob or Kevin write a review, or a conversation takes off on some blend or other, or Russ and Greg post a new story and it's "Hold onto your wallets!" :)
We won't even start on PAD... Why the heck does a guy like me who's a couple-bowl-a-weeker have ten pipes? 8O

My TAD and PAD have gone way up since I found this place too. Plus I learned about tobaccos I never even would have known existed.

It's 'cause pipes are perty!
I smoke about 3-4 times a week on a good week, yet I'm pushing close to 30 pipes in my own collection, not to mention all of the pipes I have for restoration.

I'm new to pipes as well, switching over from cigars. My wife always hated the cigars and to be honest, so did everyone else who wasn't a cigar smoker. Now, that I'm smoking a pipe, she's fine with that (her grandfather smoke one) and everyone else seems to find it "quaint" or something. It's almost odd not being criticized any longer. I find the mechanical and craftsmanship aspects of pipes intriguing, and never felt that way about cigars.

A decent cigar is over $10 now and takes 90 minutes or so to smoke. I find I have available the 30 minutes or so to smoke my pipe much more frequently. I should have made the switch 10 years ago.

Pretty hard to clean up a 100 year old cigar and give it a new life. But you can restore an old pipe that has real history.
