EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

If you were to buy a pipe per country what would you recommend?

I particularly want manufacturers, not one man bands. (Even though they are amazing!)

I bought cut throat razors from England, Italy, France .... on my world tour about 9 years ago. I’d like to make pipes my souvenir now instead of straight razors.

So if you were to say grab this pipe in this country what would be the list?

I think Peterson’s in Ireland of course. Savinelli in Italy? Dunhill in England?

What are people’s recommendations..?

Interesting. I think I’d like for them to manufactured in said country.
Do u have a link to the Austrian pipes? I can’t seem to find them online?

Vauen has some nice stuff!

Well this is tricky because many manufacturers you'd think of being from country A produce pipes in country B. For example many Brighams are made in Italy.

That said if you were to go to Germany, a Vauen would be a good choice. If you are lucky enough to visit Austria, I'd say a Staumbach Meer.

no longer use block meerschaum, but cultured.

Yes, they use cultured Meer, which is made from a proprietary process. While I've never had a Meerschaum pipe made from a block, my Straumbach smokes cool and wonderfully, and the fit on it is perfect.

link to the Austrian pipes?

I found mine on eBay, but they have a website I think.

Spanish pipe brands:
Bruken, Emilio Navarro, Ena (all of these belong to the same company), Bonet, Jean Pierre Soler, Edmund.
Most are factory made pipes, some of them in the business for more than a century. When you see the warehouses, the machinery and the amount of briar they have curing, you wonder where it all goes. There is one big factory which is not associated to any pipe brand in Valencia, I guess they have to sell their production somewhere, an operating factory needs income.

Now that Brighams are made in other countries, for Canada I’d go with Blatter & Blatter. Four generations, since 1907, in Montreal. They’ve got everything from inexpensive workhorses with fills, etc, to distinctive handmade pipes, all made in Montreal.

A number of brands associated with specific countries contract out to other countries or have some work done in other countries. Other brands move a lot. Jobey went from France, to England, to the U.S., then back to France, for example. As was mentioned, the classic Canadian brand Brigham went to Italy for production, as did the Danish brand Stanwell. I think Nording has some work contracted outside Denmark. I enjoy having pipes representing a variety of nations, but I stand warned that the stamp isn't conclusive proof of nation of origin. A good Austrian briar pipe is Kemperling. I have a Greek pipe, Amadeus, and a Dutch Big Ben. An advantage of artisan pipes is that a carver is usually situated in one country and does all his work there. Some brands that have moved are still represented on the estate market by pipes made in the original home nation, like Stanwells. Do your research, and happy hunting!
