A new arrival yesterday
Put in a low bid on EBay and was very surprised I won

A cased Sumerler NOS straight billiard with an amber tortoise shell acrylic stem and brass alloy band stamped “Sumer” with umlaut over the “u”

So either German or Austrian

This is purportedly from early 1900s but as it is not hallmarked it is difficult to ascertain its age

The bit is a combination of orific and slotted

It's very light weight. Chamber size group 6 at least

Information re: maker and possible time frame will be much appreciated

Appropriate as it is March Meerschaum Madness

A very nice billiard but I suspect it is fairly modern. The button and slot are pretty typical of Turkish meers. The case is certainly no earlier than the late 70’s I would think. That style clasp and friction tape edging are pretty indicative of modern Turkish pipes. There were several pipe outfits in Turkey that used Austrian and German names in order to invoke the quality associated with meers carved in those places. As a matter of fact one is still producing pipes today, Vienna Meerschaum in Eskisehir.

I suspect as much.
The other pipes on offer (briars. All NOS) looked like they were from the 60's - 70's.

It is a nice pipe but probably isn't as old as you would like.
It was listed as late 1800s to early 1900s

It certainly did not have the look (shape and dimension) of an antique meer
The metal band and stamping looked “modern”

It was listed with other NOS pipes that looked like they were from 1960-1970s.
So that was my guess
