I'm dancing, just made a trade for a birth year Dunhill DR B pencil shanked with canted bowl that weighs an amazing .7 ozs.

I'm not a Dunhill guy but that's one sweet pipe, and light as a feather. Is that pre-WWII? Or is that a scarce pipe from the war years?

mso489, the pipe has some stamping on it that make it pre WW II but the other stamping shows it was completed post war, 1950 to be exact. I think a lot of work got severely disrupted since metals and metal working shops got dedicated to the war time effort, in any event I'm pleased, it's a unique looking Dunhill.

fish', by your lights does that get to be a Canadian despite the round shank? That's how I think of it; I don't know how else it would be classified. It's a beauty.

Jaw dropping pipe. I bet that smokes amazing.
What tobacco will christen your first smoke in it?

mso489, if the bowl were straight and not canted I'd call it a pencil shank Canadian but since the bowl is canted I call it a canted bowl pencil shank, when I get it I'll look to see if there is a shape number on it and I'll look it up but since it's a hand worked (HW) marked pipe (this is a pre WW II mark that I spoke about earlier) it may have been a custom order, in either event I'm looking forward to getting it.
lifesizehobbit, even though the pipe has been pre-smoked I don't know if there is any residual tobacco note in the bowl. I will give it the sniff test, if it smells of English or Virginia base I'll smoke my almost 11 y/o Stonehaven in it which is my general custom for first smoke on a new pipe, if the sniff test reveals an aromatic or floral scent I'll go pith something stronger like Pirate Kake to help clear things out, cheers.

Thanks all. I was pleased to grab a DRR C-EE Dunhill Pot from 1948 thinking that would be the closest I'd get to a 1950 birth year. It's a gorgeous Angelhair grained pipe and with the DR B being more a flame grain I can't wait to see the two side by side,

Also I have two birth year Dunhill pipes my first was this group 2 Shell Briar and now the Canted Bowl Pencil Shank DR B.

The real icing on the Wedding Cake is I have a 1974 Dunhill Shell CK or Author as the shape is known. As you probably figured out that was the year I got married.
