I was wondering if they were Nord-Coats, but wasn't sure because the only ones I've seen were estates which were darker in color. Interesting to learn that they color with use.Dubbed "Nord-Coats", apparently Nording treated them with a finish that makes them color in a similar fashion to meerschaum. All unsmoked, they represent how they would've appeared decades ago at a B&M.
Now there's an idea!WoW! Very Nice especially as a set with the box! I bet Erik would love to see and sign it!
Though slightly smaller than I normally go for they are fairly large, comfortable clench, and are unusually light. I'll likely smoke them at some point to see how they color.Nice set, hope you enjoy them if you plan on smoking them.
Wow...unsmoked...quite a find. I wasn't sure what they were...never heard of Nord-Coats. Is there any story attached to this set...any idea how/why they remained unsmoked for so long?Dubbed "Nord-Coats", apparently Nording treated them with a finish that makes them color in a similar fashion to meerschaum. The tobacco shop that had it closed its doors in the '80s and the set remained untouched until MBSD Pipes bought up a lot and acquired it. Originally a 12 piece set, MBSD listed each pipe individually and they were up for sale for a couple of weeks. I've been told that one was misplaced, and they'll notify me to purchase it when found, two sold while I was eyeing them, and then they went on sale for under $80 each with several being under $70. I picked seven of the remaining nine and ordered them. MBSD quickly contacted me with an offer of the final two for $50 each with the case included and I couldn't say no.Wow...unsmoked...quite a find. That was the first one I put in my cart! That short saddle stem (second to last) is very cool!!
That's only badly drilled factory pieces and pipes too small for my battered hands to hold. Next to a pipe with a 2+ inch chamber depth, these pipes easily pass pipe cleaners and are quite large.Sadly when these are done, they are gone. One only wishes he could get his hands on the second try through these pipes. Unless one is lucky enough to go through embers' trash
Yep, the smallest of the bunch is .78"×1.82"And surprisingly, a normal-sized chamber!
