A Few That I Have Made Over The Past Year

Not for the contest, just some tinkering I had done before joining the forum just to see if I could turn out a decent pipe. Have not made any since last summer, but all of these were done on a belt sander using Mark Tinsky's plateau kits.

Those are pretty cool, it looks like they're easier to handle with the bigger bowl shapes.

Should really give it a go, very calming seeing a pipe take shape in your hands. The smaller volcano was my first.

Some very cool pipes you've made. I have a few blocks I keep meaning to get to, but the restorations are much faster and I have quite a few to knock out.

@teufelhund With doing restorations, making them would probably come easier to you. I went the other way. Made a couple first before I was brave enough to do a restoration.

@anthony Highest of praise my friend, thank you very much. That was the first time I worked with acrylic. Strangely, easier to damage than vulcanite with a sander.

I like all of them.
I'm glad you are showing ones that you did. I think there are a couple of people out there on the edge that have talked about making one.
I think it's a great experience.
My first one was completely hand made, no electric involved. I'm proud of it, loved doing it, and will never do so again. It took me two months to produce something that is smokable, but my wife won't let me smoke it in public. She says she thinks the cops will think its some pot pipe and pull us over.
My other two were made involving a Dremel. I wish I had the money and space for a real wood shop, but the Dremel is a good compromise for me.
I'm never going to win a prize, or make money making pipes. I have added a whole other dimension to my pipe smoking hobby as a whole though.
If nothing else you end up really appreciate what it takes to make some of the beautiful pipes that are out there.
The best part for me is getting to say I made it when people ask me about it. The people that know me are absolutely amazed. They know me well enough to know I have next to zero wood working/craftsman skills and I was still able to make something that stands out from your average basket pipe.

@ivapewithfire Thank you for the kind words. After talking alot with Bruce Weaver when he was working on one of my pipes, I caught his enthusiasm and had to try my hand at it. His advice and encouragement made all the difference. Saw that pipe of yours and loved it. Definitely have a soft spot for freehands.
