Second pipe repair for the day. I got in this old Bulldog. I love getting pipes in this condition. Full of cake and wonderfully crusty.
This one needed a thorough cleaning. I was quite happy that in spite of the crusty rim, there was no charring or scarring. It took considerable persuasion to get the crust off, however. Alcohol and light sanding did the trick. I then gave it a quick re-color with mahogany leather dry. The stem got the AWESOME detergent/sandpaper routine. It was in good condition, although it felt more "rubbery" than any stem I've ever encountered. The pipe then got a good buffing with polishing compounds and wax. It turned out quite nicely.
