I’m not interested in buying this. I’m seeing it on yahoo auction Japan. I was just curious about it. Is this case really meant for this Kapet? It seems to say “Dublin” below Peterson on the sticker in the case. Except for “Peterson’s Kapet,” I see no other markings on the pictures. No “made in the Republic,” etc.
I was just curious what I’m looking at. Maybe this isn’t as old as it looks? Just curious is all.

That is a Peterson pipe, and likely pre-Republic. Get George Dibos to make a new stem for it.
Hmm...I'm short on cash and wasn't really thinking of buying it. I'm oversees and shipping it out is really expensive. It's cool if it IS pre-republic. But I'm not sure Kapets were made pre-Republic. The seller wants about 30$ (I'm converting from yen). Since, unlike the States, there's really no one in Japan making stems to order, it might sit on auction for a while. It might come down. Still, I'm sort of pinching pennies these days.

The case has survived which is half the battle. I wonder what happened to the stem. Maybe amber as the age is about right. Usually chewed up vulcanite stems just got shortened and a new lip formed so it might have been amber. Does it say anything on the case?

I’m not sure when the Kapete line was introduced, but it was included in the 1939 Rogers catalogue, so it definitely was around pre-republic.

Whether or not the pipe is original to the case I have no idea but it certainly looks snug. Interesting as the Kapete line was one of the more economical ones, so I wouldn’t have assumed it to have a matching case.

This scenario actually kinda reminds me of the unmarked Pete with amber stem that @ashdigger picked up a few months back.

Condition of case & stummel look excellent. For 30$ you’re looking straight into the mouth of a gift horse there.
That’s why it got my attention. I wonder how sure we could be of its age.

I was wondering about that. I thought it was rather a cheaper pipe to have cased. Curious.

Right. But it’ll cost me 30$ to ship to the U.S. 30$ more for a new stem. Maybe 20$ more to ship back. It’s still not an arm and a leg I guess.
