I still consider myself a beginner and a novice, so I am posting here...
Anyone have a suggestion of a relatively smaller, lightweight clencher?
I have a handful of really enjoyable pipes, but they are too heavy to clench while I am doing work in the yard... One of my favorite places to have a pipe is when I am meandering around the yard.
Right now, I am using my corn cobs because they weigh so little.
I totally regret selling my Ligne Bretagne... long stem, slightly bent billiard... weighed nothing....
Been looking at those rattray cuttys... but they are like $189.... doable, but I'd rather find one cheaper. In fact, I'd love a slightly longer stem zulu, yacht, cutty, billiard, egg....
Thought about Stanwell featherweights...
anyone have great experience with something I haven't considered?
Please share... Thanks, G

A small Devil Anse might work. That's how I use mine, mostly.

Until my dog rusticated it for me I really liked a Savinelli Lollo too. One of these days I'll get around to working on that pipe.

I have a straight MM Great Dane Egg with a short bit that works well for that purpose as well.

I do not have one, but a friend of mine in Germany swears by Stanwell Featherweight.

Cobs all day, man. I can barely feel most of them when I'm clenching and if you bite through one, replacement bits are literally pennies.
ESPECIALLY for the yard. If you run over one with the mower or drop one in the coy pond, you'll be a whole lot less upset.

My two favorite pipes to clench are my Peterson D6 & D9 with standard length stems. You may want to consider a Peterson 268 which is their Zulu shape.

Its a Washington cob that has had the shank shortened 3/4" and fitted with a Walker Briar Works Nose Warmer stem. Dave used to sell 'em.

I have a few shag pipes I like. They are small bowl pipes made back in the day. If you go to eBay and search estate pipes shag. The first six or so to show up are under $30 some are $14.

I have an unfinished MM general. Huge bowl, but far lighter than its finished brother.

Missouri Meerschaum "Morgan" model is by far the best little pipe there is for the money and it really isn't THAT little bowl"wise"...

This pipe is perfect for clenching, pocketing, and of course, smoking.

I've got three right now, including the first one I got in a batch of seconds. I got two more when I ordered a Cobbit Shire model and the 'first quality' Morgans were a little bigger bowled than the 'second' and that's a good thing.

The bits are improved and less prone to distortion, OR, I've learned not to bite on them so hard, because my newer Morgan (I'm saving the other one for gawd knows what) doesn't seem to be as susceptible to dents, but even so, replacement bits are under a dollar.

The natural unfinished cob breathes beautifully and feels great in hand.

I love my Morgans.

Use the pipe finder at smoking pipes and select pipes under 1 oz for a starting point. You'll feel the weight less with more bend.

+1 on the Stanwell Featherweights. I have 3 in my rotation right now. I also have a 3stem, 4bowl Falcon set that travels with me. Great little pipes, very light weight, and very tough.
