Fascinating reading. By the way, looked it up, "buccal" is referring to the cheek. I did not know that!

We can now do away with many of questions posted here, past and present. Also many of the accepted explanations and age old myths. Oh dear, what will we discuss? Pipes only?

PS
For those, like me with a limited attention span, it's a fairly short, easy read. Especial now that I've defined "buccal." :sher:

Q3 Is there a special pipe-smoking panel at Liverpool? If not who is responsible for the sensory checks on new developments and regular quality checks ? A3 Leaf Dept: Leaf Department personnel should continuously smoke all products . Within Leaf Department, experienced pipe smokers are selected a s "experts" . Q4 Is there a certain agreement in the verbal description of sensory impressions between the panel and the questions in M.R. tests ? A4 Leaf Dept : Not to our knowledge .

Its sort of amazing that an organization as large as BAT didn't have a formal sensory panel for quality control or product development. It was just the leaf buyers smoking "continuously" and going with their instincts. I wonder if that's still the case.

Or properly developed lexicon with which to discuss the product! Even though this was standard practice in other industries like food, wine, distilled spirits and beer.

Yes, exactly! I’ve often wondered about a lexicon for descriptive analysis of tobacco and thought, “surely it’s out there.” But maybe not!

Hats off to the very consistent and calibrated language of @JimInks in his reviews. He’s the closest we’ve got. puffy
