Earlier this morning I loaded the Mimmo Provenzano Calabash I have that came with a stand and two bowls.
What got my interested in his pipes is that he lives in the Puglia region of Italy where I would have been born if my parents hadn't come to the states so it's nice to have something from that region.
The gourd part of the body is Olivewood and the bowl is briar capped with Morta in the first photo and Maple capped in the second photo, I'm keeping it smokey with some Capstan Blue.

kanse,

That would be impossible due to not having a clear spot large enough for them and being able to get up high enough on a ladder to get the shot, regards.

My father was born in Parete but that is west of your parents home although both relatively coastal in nature. I have yet to visit his birth home which is now partly owned by me and a two of my cousins. Me in name only since I have not legally claimed per Italy's legal requirements. I suppose I should do so soon. It is a working farm that has been in the family for centuries although most of the farm is worked by another family. We have 40 or so Acres of olives, peaches, strawberries, and citrus with a few grapes here and there. The rest of the acreage is leased to the other farmer. I wonder if there are noted pipe makers in the region? Would be cool to own something made there as you do from your roots.

aquadoc,

I'd take whatever action there was needed to claim your portion of the property. Sadly I asked my father to go to Italy with me when I retired to visit his brother and at the time he didn't feel he could make the trip. Sadly 6 months later his brother passed away and less than 6 months after that my dad passed away and I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma 4 months later, couple that with all the other maladies I have I can't make the trip now.
I'd contact Mimmo Provenzano and injure if he knew of any pipe makers from your region and if not ask how long Olivewood needs to dry to be made into a pipe and what part is needed and then have Mimmo make one from a tree on your property there, that would be a cool thing to have, regards.

Banjo, I think I will do that. My cousins, the male sons that were 1st generation grandchildren, and I are the owners and we are to pass to our sons, etc. And in this way it stays in the family. We are close so there are no issues but as you know, anything can happen. I will begin looking into the paperwork and travel plans. Good advice, thank you.

newbroom,

When I finish posting the last 2 I will weigh them, there are easily 3 different sizes to compare with and I'll post which pipe they are and the weight.
