80 Mile Drive...New Pipe

Made time to visit LJ Peretti's in Boston today. 1/2 lb of the house 150th flake, 2 100g tin of Rattray's Red Rapperee, 1 tin 1792 Flake, and a oil finish bent rhody with the Perreti stamp in the briar. So it looks like I will not be taking advatntage of the SP sale on Petes this time around

One of the great iconic pipe shops, one of the few left, along with Iwan Ries in Chicago and a few others, and now that Nat Sherman has closed in Manhattan. Nice pipe!

Thank you! They have been around since 1870. Pipe smokes great. 1st half a bowl of MacBaren's Latakia roll cake.

If I ever get the chance to stop by the Iwan Ries store, I will be there. This was a great experience, and got to stop by, and visit with some friends who live out that way for a few hours. A smoke, and some time in a local park during the afternoon. The also gave me about an ounce for a free sample with the pipe of another house blend called

Pride of Loch Lomond, I would probably get a can of this if we go back sometime.

I guess Barclay Rex is the major surviving New York City pipe and cigar shop, though online they seem to emphasize the cigars, not just feature them co-equally. Cigars are the revenue stream for a lot of tobacconist shops, and pipes are more like a sideline.

The pics I have don't show it well, but there is huge scale on the counter that I believe has been there since the doors opened. Tells me it is 1 of 2 made like it. The other is in a museum. Still passes the annual inspection for calibration like clockwork.

Looking forward to that part. I don't own any other natural finish briars. Love watching meers, and even cobs darken with age. I expect this will be no different

I have a couple natural pipes. It's pretty cool how they color.
