Warning: there will be a whole bunch of words and only one picture. The short story is that I got some pipes today.

I knew my dad had some pipes but I had not seen them at his house for years. His pipe career was short lived, and he stuck with cigarettes. I asked him about the pipes a while back and we looked for them but never found them.

Well, he found them. Here they are:

I got that empty Tinder Box tin from him years ago, it is a one ounce tin. The pipes and Atmos 3-in-1 I just took possession of today.

A little snapshot of what one beginner pipe smoker was using in the early 70s. He said he didn’t remember buying that Aalborg tin. He mostly smoked Half & Half for the brief time he smoked.

Yellow pipe is a Grabow Color Duke. The little pipe with all the big fills (not sure if you can see them well in the pic) is a Jayar. At least that is what I think it says. Also says Italy.

The pipe in the foreground is a Hickok Premier. I spent a little time cleaning it up today and “burning” the oxidation off the stem. It really wasn’t bad to start with, so cleanup was pretty easy. It was my immediate favorite and is probably the only one of the three I will use.

Nothing special about these, but I was still glad to get the pipes from him. I like the Color Duke visually, maybe I will smoke that one also. That little one is pretty ugly and looks to have had the most use.

Glad you have your dad’s pipes! They look fine to me especially if they have sentimental value. I too inherited my father’s entry level pipes and I cherish them and do smoke them occasionally. Nothing special but I like them all.

The one that seems most used is probably the best smoking one! Although I agree that bottom one looks nicer.

Hope you enjoy them all.

Congratulations ! Enjoy them. That little one despite looks might clean up to be a nice taster pipe for when you want to try a tobacco before loading a large bowl. Just a thought.
