I was at smokingpipes the other day browsing through the estates and what do you know? Another case of love at first sight. 1962 No. 40 Shell Briar

Besides the Canadian Lovats are my favorite shape. What really caught my attention on this one was that most of the original dark stain is worn away leaving much of the vintage wood exposed creating nice color. I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on this pipe because I have another '62 Lovat in my collection and I love it so I was pretty certain this one would just as good.

My only nit is that the stamping is pretty faint. I'm for sure not a fan of overzealous buffer wheeling. It could be just the steady wear of a well loved pipe. After all it is 52 years old. But it looks well buffed to me.

In any event the pipe smokes wonderfully. Its a little lighter than my other #40 and it seems to warm up a bit quicker but overall I'm very happy with this latest purchase from the estates at smokingpipes.
